Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
I forgot to mention I originally purchased it so I could have the required spec to play BF3, which of course I ended up not buying, lol. However even though the graphics card has 1.5GB of memory on it I have my system tweaked to utilize another 2.5gb of my RAM for a total of 4GB video allocation. This is extremely handy in video editing as I can let the graphics card process most of the encoding and still fully utilize the extended RAM for everything else.
Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
My dream laptop is the Razer Blade gaming Laptop, now keep this in mind, i believe this thing is way over priced, now thats out of the way here are some specs and pics:
Intel Core i7 Processor
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz Memory
17.3” Full HD 16:9 Ratio, 1920x1080 LED Backlit Screen
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 2GB DDR5 VRAM for graphics
256GB SATA III SSD w/ TRIM Support(i wish i had an SSD in my computer)
Pics:
The cool this about this laptop is that u have programable buttons

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
Don't take this wrong, but I would not call that a gaming laptop. Here is to help you a bit on cards
Manufacturer NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 144@525-753MHz
Codename N12E-GE-B
Pipelines 144 - unified
Core Speed * 525-753 MHz
Shader Speed * 1180-1505 MHz
Memory Speed * 785-900 MHz
Memory Bus Width 128/192 Bit
Memory Type DDR3/GDDR5
Max. Amount of Memory 3072 MB
Shared Memory no
DirectX DirectX 11, Shader 5.0
technology 40 nm
Notebook Size large
Date of Announcement 06.01.2011
COMPARABLE:
Manufacturer NVIDIA
GeForce GTX 560M SLI 384@775MHz
GeForce GTX 580M 384@620MHz
GeForce GTX 570M 336@575MHz
GeForce GTX 560M 192@775MHz
My Card - This is the lowest graphics card model I would suggest
GeForce GTX 570M 336@575MHz
Pipelines 336 - unified
Core Speed * 575 MHz
Shader Speed * 1070 MHz
Memory Speed * 1150 MHz
Memory Bus Width 192 Bit
Memory Type GDDR5
Max. Amount of Memory 3 GB
Shared Memory no
DirectX DirectX 11, Shader 5.0
Transistors 1950 Million
technology 40 nm
Notebook Size large
Date of Announcement 28.06.2011
So the issue with the 555m is it has to many variables check out these different versions and tell me which you think is the best model:
Versions (From lowest to highest performance):
144 cores 709MHz (GF106), 128Bit GDDR5, e.g. MSI GX780
144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 192Bit DDR3, e.g. Dell XPS 17, Alienware M14x
144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 128Bit DDR3, e.g. Schenker XMG A501 / A701 (Clevo W150HRM / W170HN)
96 cores 753MHz (GF108), 128Bit GDDR5, e.g. Lenovo Y570p / Y560p
144 cores 525 MHz (GF116), 128 Bit DDR3, e.g. Medion Akoya P6812
Also just to mention the SSD drive, useless. What are you going to do with a 256GB drive? Almost nothing with today's standards. So you set it up and install your games. One hour of FRAPS recording will eat over 100GB of HDD space. This means you game a bit, then log off spend time encoding your videos, delete, and do it over again. Hope you have enough HDD space available to encode with as well. This would also mean many defrags to keep the proper windows files in the correct locations.
Intel Core i7 Processor? Vague which version the old or new Sandy Bridge cause there is a huge difference in the 2 model platforms.
I do like the keyboard and programmable buttons they are cool. Sorry to have shot down your dream laptop, but I am going to assume now you have read my stuff and it does not look so dreamy anymore. I know you can come up with a much better dream gaming rig. Show me something more. I need something more

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
Thanks, am not a laptop expert, am more of a desktop guy, so since am kind of against Alienware because there too expenive for the price, i would go with ether Lambo's dream laptop, did some looken on the web, or some thing like this:MSI GT683, they say this is a very good laptop, what do u guys think?

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
I will refer you to my first post in which I state I have the GT683DXR and that is by far the best all around model series for gaming. Each 683 has some slight differences but I barely look at my Quad core AMD desktop anymore
Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
o ok, what do u think are the best laptops of right now? I always like to learn about tech, its like school except more fun.
Edit: other than the one u own, i know thats a good laptop, but know of anything else?

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
I have used Toshiba, Dell, HP, & Compaq before but have never really been impressed with any of them. Actually the laptop I had for the shortest amount of thime was a Toshiba. The fans did not last at all. I have become an MSi guy and will stick with them. Also helps to have a couple of my youtube videos linked to there MSi-Powered youtube page. That happened a few months back.
Just my opinions here but that company has always built the PCs and desktops right with a decent mid ranged price. The value is there. Others like Cyberpower and IBuypower just are over priced slapped together computers.
In seraching other than a good video car the HDD is very important. a dual 7200RPM HDD setup in Raid 0 will perform IMO as good as a SSD drive and for a lot less expense. Always look for laptops with the ability to have 2 HDDs onboard so you are future safe.
****The most important thing with a laptop is to remember to make it future safe. Think about it as a major investment because unlike a PC most parts are not replaceable. ****
Oh and Asus is pretty good for gaming laptops as well. Solid builds.

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
anytime just ask and i will tell you what I know from my years of experience.
Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
IMO the MSI is the best. To me Asus is like Honda always reliable but never really creative. MSI on the other hand is more like Hyundai or Kia cuz they r more creative.

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
At one point, this was my dream laptop,,, it wasn't called a laptop though, as it was somewhat bigger at the time.. I think the phrase used was "luggable" I actually had one for a time and lost it to a house fire in '05.
I give you the Compaq Portable III
Specs:
http://www.vintage-computer.com/compaq_portable3.shtml
I also used a different "luggable" on my first "data-entry" job. It had a spreadsheet program installed that I entered information into. I think it was actually Excel 1.0 or maybe Lotus 1-2-3.
Here's a link for it: http://www.vintage-computer.com/compaq_portable.shtml
I think it's amazing where things have gone in the past few decades, makes me wonder what will come next?

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
Hey Dan, is there gaming laptop that is as good as or close to yours (MSI) that is affordable? I am thinking about getting a new laptop soon since my Toshiba Satellite (2007) is slowly dying.

Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
Sake I had to remove the image as there was a malware code hidden in it from the gadget city site. I am letting you know to be careful on gadget citys website it is on a list of identified malware websites which have been used to gain access to computers.
Re: What's your dream gaming laptop?
Dan, you own an MSI, right? Well, I have decided that is what I'm going to reach for. Though, on the official site, most models are out of stock. Is that regular? What are the chances?

www.newegg.com is where I picked mine up. Yes these laptops are generally in and out of stock due to there popularity.
