The Gran Turismo series is developed by Polyphony Digital and produced by Kazunori Yamauchi.
The appeal of the Gran Turismo series is due significantly to the graphics, the number of licensed vehicles, the extent and detail of simulation, and the ability to tune performance. Handling of the vehicles is modeled on real-life driving impressions, tuning is based on principles of physics, and the sound of the vehicle's engine is based on recordings of the actual vehicles. The game has been a flagship for the PlayStation console's graphics capabilities, and is often used to demonstrate the system's potential.
Although Gran Turismo has an arcade mode, most gameplay derives from its simulation mode. Players start with a certain number of credits, usually 10,000 (18,000 in Gran Turismo 3; used cars were not present in this game; and 20,000 in Gran Turismo 5), which are used to purchase vehicles from several manufacturer-specific shops, or from used car dealers, and then tune their car at the appropriate parts store for best performance. Certain events are open only to particular types of vehicles. In order to enter and progress through more difficult races, a license-testing system has been implemented, which guides players through skill development. Players may apply prize money won in events to upgrade their existing car or buy a new one, collecting a garage of vehicles.
Since Gran Turismo 5 Prologue launched on the PlayStation 3, an online aspect of the gameplay has started to evolve. GT5 Prologue has enabled users to race online with up to 16 players on track at once. Gran Turismo 4 for the PlayStation 2 was actually the first online-enabled Gran Turismo game but the online aspect of the game didn't make it past beta stage.
According to Yamauchi, the cars in the first two games were made from 300 polygons,[3] while those in Gran Turismo 3 and 4 were made up of 4,000 polygons,[4] and those in Gran Turismo 5 were made up of 500,000.[5]

Call it a sign of our attention-deficit times, but barely 24 hours have passed since Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Gran Turismo 5 is finally, finally finished, and already he's being asked if Gran Turismo 6 is in development. Even more shocking: It turns out that...well, yes, Gran Turismo 6 is already in development.
During an interview with Autoweek (via VG247) at the SEMA 2010 automotive trade show, Yamauchi was asked if development on Gran Turismo 6 was "already underway." Yamauchi tersely replied, "yeah." Then he elaborated a little: "It's not something that we can talk that lightly on. It took 2,000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5. It's just too early to be talking about GT6."

So in other words, maybe ask again in about 3,000 days? And as for why it took so long to get Gran Turismo 5 finished -- particularly the last-minute extra time following a delay just weeks before its set November 3 release date -- Yamauchi explained that it all goes back to what he considers his failures on his first game, Motor Toon Gran Prix for the PlayStation.

"The year and a half that it was in development, the last three months as the release date approached, myself and my staff were getting three hours of sleep a day to try and get the game done," Yamauchi explained. "Near the end, the people from Sony came to our development studio and told us it was good enough and that we could release it. At the time, I probably wasn't thinking very clearly, being as exhausted as I was, and I talked myself into thinking this was good enough and it went to release."

What happened next? Everything Yamauchi felt probably could have been better ended up being exactly what the game was criticized for. "That was something I regretted very much when that happened because I knew it was coming," he explained. "And that happened at the beginning of my career, and it was something I vowed would never happen again."

Thus, Gran Turismo 5's delay. "It was really to adjust it so it would be perfect," Yamauchi said. But despite the game being finished and off for mass production, there still hasn't been a new release date announced for Gran Turismo 5 yet.

If you are really gamers, there is no way you don’t know or never heard about Gran Turismo game series. The latest series of this game which have been released was Gran Turismo 5. Some people usually abbreviate it as GT 5. Actually Gran Turismo is a racing video game series. This game is developed by Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment is appointed to publish the game series. Since the fifth edition has been released in 2010, now Poliphony Digital is still working for the next edition, Gran Turismo 6 (GT 6). The series creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, has confirmed this report lately. He said that the development of Gran Turismo 6 is underway. But, he said he can’t give any further details about a release window about this series. He said that it’s too early to talk about the next series now. Many gamers out there have been waiting for innovations that they may find in the next series of Gran Turismo. They are curious about Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling. Is there any possibility that the damage modeling will be more challenging than Gran Turismo 5 Damage Modelling? Will the creator put many differences to make the game more fun to play? There are many questions raise around the news of the development of Gran Turismo 6.
In the previous series of Gran Turismo game, Polyphony Digital has developed various damage models. The variations of damage model will be depending on the vehicle category, whether it falls into “premium” or “standard “-category. The previous series of Gran Turismo, there are over 1,000 cars, 71 different tracks, and 26 different locations available, including the night racing feature. Damage modeling system had never been seen in other GT game before the Gran Turismo 5 was released. Thousands gamers from all around the world has been waiting for the next innovations of Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling system that will be set in the game by the creator. Most of them were wondering whether the damage effects in the Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling will be as underwhelming as in the previous version. The previous damage modeling system will not be unlocked until the racer reaches level 20. That’s why racer will not be able to see the damage effects unless they have reached level 20 above. The damage modeling includes mechanical damage and structural damage. And the effects are quite impressive since the violent effects of impacts are seen and felt therein.
Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling should be better and more impressive than it was in the Gran Turismo 5. Maybe the variations of damage models can be increased. Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling should be looked more reality-like to make the game more approachable. It is important to bring racing simulation to the players according to the racing rules in the real world. Maybe the Polyphony Digital should work harder to bring the real racing environment into the game by providing more impressive Gran Turismo 6 Damage Modelling. Surprising effects will do it to make the gamers enjoy their racing more.
