About the car:
Designed by the now-legendary 'Saturday Club' and built in conjunction with Tom Walkinshaw's Jaguar Sport company, the car that would become known as the XJ220 was developed to shake up the supercar scene and ignite a new Jaguar racing heyday.

Like its equally-innovative ancestor, the XK120, its name was to reference its projected top speed. Like the XK120, it was never intended to go into production. And, like the XK120, popular demand saw it head speedily from the British Motor Show stands to road-going reality.

With an aluminum honeycomb tub and body panels crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum, the XJ220 was considerably lighter than its contemporaries, while its pioneering use of ground effects imbued it with unparalleled stability at high speeds. As a result, in conjunction with its 542-bhp, 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, it boasted a top speed of 213 mph, making it the fastest production car in the world.

However, after its racing version, the XJ220C, was controversially deprived of a Le Mans class win in 1993, the XJ220 itself was to be robbed of fulfilling its glorious potential, due to a global recession that would see only 281 sold.
