There are some ways around this, but it should be read and understood that you no longer have a right to do what you want on the internet.

THing here is that Comcast is coming out saying they are going to be enforcing what they have been doing already for a couple years. Bare in mind that almost all cable/digital service companies are doing it but not saying it.

Optimum is Cablevison not Comcast, but I have no doubt they are doing the same thing as Comcast.

I wonder if using a proxy service (like Hide My Ass or others) helps in this situation. Canadians use such to watch US of A content that's location sensitive (like US Netflix etc.)

This type of proxy service can block out advertising and most regular level things, but the network itself and packet data sent from your modem no matter how you hide it, is still all seen and controlled by the cable/media companies. The only thing really is that in this case Comcast is coming out and saying openly they are watching us and at the same time have been doing it for years like it or not.

Many VPN services, like the very popular HideMyAss, keep logs of all your activity and will gladly offer it up to those that ask for it. This means your data is barely safer than if you had foregone the VPN in the first place.

(Found: http://lifehacker.com/5936938/how-do-i-torrent-safely-now-that-demonoid-is-down) Not All VPNs Are Created Equal - towards the bottom of the article

Well I'm not afraid because I don't do anything illegal. I considered getting VPN likee my friends, but I don't watch that much TV that I would benefit from using USA Netflix versus Canadian one. However, I wonder what happened to my privacy when I read the news on Comcast because I see the potential for the same from Canadian providers.
