Team Need for Speed Visits Navarra for FIA GT3 Championship

This weekend sees the FIA GT3 European Championship racing at Navarra for the first time. For Team Need for Speed this is also a first, as the team has never raced before on the new track in the north of Spain. However, the team is still determined to defend its lead in the teams’ championship.

Edward Sandström (SE) and Abdulaziz Turki Al Faisal (SA) will share driving duties in the no. 6 BMW Z4 GT3. The sister car carrying number 7 will be driven by Claudia Hürtgen (DE) and Csaba Walter (HU).

Stefan Wendl, Team Manager: “The Navarra circuit is completely new territory for us as a team. The layout suggests that other cars might have a slight advantage compared to us, as our BMW Z4 GT3 is especially strong in fast corners. And there aren’t that many quick bends in Navarra. Nevertheless, our aim is to defend our lead in the championship. We are positive that we can achieve this goal.”

Edward Sandström: “The result of the 24-hour race at the Nordschleife was quite disappointing. I’m sorry for the entire team that they had so much work due to all the necessary repairs. However, we’re travelling to Spain with high hopes and want to prove the team’s work was not in vain. Together with Abdulaziz, I want to make sure that we stay at the top of the championship.”

Claudia Hürtgen: “I know the race track in Navarra since a short visit last April. It shouldn’t be a problem for us to find a good race setup quickly. The forecast says sunshine for the weekend. That should suit us, as our BMW Z4 GT3, in combination with the Dunlop tyres, usually works very well in hot conditions. Our main goal will be to get over the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring as soon as possible. We want to have a successful race weekend and collect as many points for the championship as possible.”
