BioWare Confirms More Mass Effect 3 DLC Incoming, "Leviathan" Files Unearthed
Hidden files in Extended Cut DLC suggest Shepard will find a powerful new ally.
Mass Effect 3 isn't over just yet. BioWare has confirmed Commander Shepard and crew will continue their galactic adventure via story-driven, single-player downloadable content. And that strikes me as farcical. What with ME3 billed as the epic final chapter of Shepard's story, the outrage, petitions, and cupcakes the conclusion created, and the resulting Extended Cut content. Yup, after all that hubbub over Mass Effect 3's ending, the story isn't over after all! And thanks to some hidden files unearthed in the Extended Cut, we know exactly where the new DLC will take us.
Posting on Twitter yesterday as fans began discussing Extended cut, Mass Effect 3 Producer Mike Gamble teased, "Would now be a good time to talk about how we're doing more DLC in the future? " A few minutes later, Gamble added, "That was a trick question. We'll save the future DLC for future chats. Don't worry though...there's much more."
Courtesy of the sleuths at Pastebin, we know that one of those DLC adventures is called Leviathan. And yes, there are plenty of spoilers below.
Based on a partial script in the Extended Cut's index files, we learn that Leviathan will send Shepard on a (stop me if you've heard this before) mission to an alien dig site in an effort to rescue a scientist. Turns out the dig is part of a Reaper-indoctrinated mining facility controlled by a defector Reaper, Leviathan. Leviathan can even join the fight, becoming a powerful new war asset. A Reaper on your side? Could this mean BioWare has a truly alternate Mass Effect 3 ending in the works?
So yeah, it looks like Mass Effect 3 isn't over just yet. Not by a long shot.
